The Kaminski House Museum, already a wonderful place to enjoy the Lowcountry’s rich history, including beautiful grounds and a fine collection of 18th and 19th century English and American decorative arts and furnishings, takes all of that one step further during the holiday season.

Located in Georgetown, the third oldest city in South Carolina, the museum offers numerous activities that are sure to put visitors in a happy holiday spirit.

Events include candlelight tours, special performances by local handbell choirs and chamber orchestras, the annual lighting of the lawn of the Kaminski House, a holiday market on the first Friday and Saturday in December, and Family Night on December 16 with rides aboard a trolley.

Additionally, there will be the Holiday Designers Showcase, a beautifully elaborate exhibit in itself, in which local decor specialists and interior designers decorate each room of the Kaminski House for the season.

In this annual guided tour, which runs Mondays-Saturdays through December 30th at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., museum attendees are treated to expansive glitz and glamor. 

According to Kaminski House Museum Deputy Director Kim Leatherwood, the museum has been richly decorated for the holidays since 2014, when some of the board members pitched in that first year with their own home trimmings and ornaments.

“For the past six or so years, the museum has been extremely fortunate to have local designers and interior specialists share their talents to decorate the rooms. The staff also works with lighting designer Carlton Whilden of MC Lighting & Sound to add holiday lighting to the lawn of the Kaminski House Museum.”

This year, the annual lighting takes place on Saturday, December 2. The Museum will host a Holiday Village for Children from 3 - 5 p.m. with a special performance of the Saltwater Chamber Orchestra at 5 p.m. The Orchestra will lead the crowd for the countdown to light up the lawn at 5:30 p.m.
