After a few very unsettled months, nothing can be quite as soothing as getting outdoors and enjoying the kind of peace only the natural world can bring. The North Inlet Paddle outings will take place throughout the summer. The North Inlet-Winyah Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve (NERR) will have you out on the water to enjoy nature by kayak. NERR and Surf the Earth will lead these naturalist-guided tours by water through the North Inlet estuary. If you’re new to kayaking, there will be basic instruction on paddling through these serene spots.

All equipment will be included in the price, as well as a natural history overview and educational and research highlights of the North Inlet ecosystem. Be sure to wear sturdy shoes and bring water and a snack. Packing a camera or binoculars to capture shots and get a better look at flora and fauna is also a great option. The price for this four-hour adventure is $60 per person, and each excursion is limited to just ten participants. Please call to reserve your spot, as registration is required. To reduce plastic use, please bring only reusable water bottles. Iced water will be available throughout the event for refills.

Current scheduled dates (weather and other factors permitting) are June 9 and 23, July 8, August 6 and 21 and September 4. NERR is located in Georgetown. The organization was established in 1992 as a partnership between the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the University of South Carolina’s Belle W. Baruch Institute for Marine and Coastal Science. NERR encompasses about 18,916 acres of wetlands and tidal marsh. Through education, stewardship, research and training, they promote healthy estuaries, resilient coastal communities, watershed prevention and thriving ecosystems.
