The City of North Myrtle Beach and the Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach will join forces with the Grand Strand Running Club to host the fifth year of Run for the Shelter. Head to the North Myrtle Beach Park & Sports Complex on April 7 for a day of fun and exercise to support your furry friends.

The morning will kick off with a 5K at 9 a.m. and prizes will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers, as well as the top three males and females in each age group. At 11 a.m. the one-mile Dog Walk will begin. Participants can take a beautiful spring stroll with their dogs. Those participating in the 5K can also choose to take this victory lap with their canine companions post-run.

After the running and walking will come the Doggie Bone Hunt. This event will begin at noon and is a twist on a traditional Easter egg hunt. Bones will be hidden around the park and the pet parents must collect as many bones as possible before their pup partners chow down on them.

Packet pickup for the race will be held on Friday, April 6, from 4–7 p.m. at the North Myrtle Beach Chick-fil-A (690 U.S. 17 N.). There will also be pickup on race day at the venue from 7:30–8:45 a.m. for the 5K and 10:30–11 a.m. for the one-mile Dog Walk.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach. The shelter’s mission is to find loving and permanent homes for abandoned animals, as well as to provide first-rate veterinary care and offer low cost spay and neuter programs. They also reach out to children, parents and teachers through the education of pet responsibility. To donate directly to the shelter or learn how you can volunteer, visit www.humanesocietynmb.org.
