The Franklin G Burroughs-Simeon B Chapin Art Museum presents the 47th Annual National Exhibition of the South Carolina Watermedia Society this fall. The exhibition opens October 3 and continues through December 29. An opening reception will be held at the museum on October 3 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. to announce the awards selection.

With nearly 180 entries, the society’s most competitive show in years, juror Ken Call curated a collection of 58 pieces that represent artists from coast to coast. The exhibition features many Southeastern artists, particularly those residing in Georgia, North Carolina and, of course, South Carolina. With works ranging from abstract to stark realism, the breadth of watermedia is explored and enriched through this year’s Annual National Exhibition.

“We are very proud to showcase the most elite artists in the beautiful and historic Springmaid Villa, which is celebrating its 100th birthday this year,” shares SCWS President, Victoria Alger. The Villa is home to the museum.

Since 1977, The South Carolina Watermedia Society, the state’s largest visual arts group, has been promoting the artistic and professional interest of its members as well as providing visual arts programs to the public. SCWS seeks to elevate the stature of watermedia and educate the public on its importance as a creative medium. The organization promotes the highest aesthetic visual arts standards in order to stimulate the practice and appreciation of the arts. For more information about SCWS, visit scwatermedia.com

The art museum is dedicated to being one of the finest visual arts museums in the Carolinas. It strives to engage the community and visitors through unique exhibitions and interactive, educational and creative programs for people.
