Juried fine art show among the city’s top festivals
Georgetown, the third oldest city in South Carolina (chartered in 1729), boasts a history of dedication to the arts, with the annual Art and Wine Walk 2024 in June continuing its heralded tradition.
This juried fine art show, open to artists in South Carolina and Georgia, is sponsored in part by the Georgetown Business Association (GBA). The event, which has been compared to Lake City’s ArtFields, but smaller, will be held June 15th -16th on Front Street and at Maritime Park, with sellable exhibits ongoing in Front Street venues through June 22. Visitors can see living and interactive art displays, juried 2D & 3D art and photography and digital art exhibits, other mixed media, including ceramics, glass, sculpture, fiber, and wood, an open-air art fair, and live music, according to Deb Smith, Georgetown Art & Wine Walk Coordinator, GBA member, and owner of Art Harbor Gallery. On Saturday evening, attendees are invited to join in the always-popular Art & Wine Walk, a wine-tasting event at various locations downtown from 4-7:30 p.m.
“This year we’ve added more interactive street art and kids' art activities. Also, the musical, theatrical, and spoken word arts will be featured at various venues and times,” Smith notes. “In addition to the juried competition and an expanded art fair, we are excited to include a new Plein Air Quick Draw competition and a “Day in the Life” Instagram photo contest.
More than $4,000 in cash awards are planned for the art section. The judges will select winners in 2D art /photography/digital art and 3D art and will award 12 prizes plus one People’s Choice Award, with prizes ranging from $200 to $800.
Once again, the event benefits The Village Group, a local nonprofit that assists kids with college and career readiness, and cultural education, including art-centric summer programs.
