Travinia’s Kamakaziberry keeps happy hours happier year-round

Locals and visitors alike were thrilled as The Market Common opened with great fanfare in 2008. Besides offering an exciting vision in residential design, recreation and green space, and new and unique-to-the-area shopping opportunities, The Market Common also promised and delivered a new restaurant district, featuring the casual, elegant and contemporary Travinia Italian Kitchen as a premier destination for lunch and dinner.

Boasting an expansive wine selection, a large lounge and bar area and weekly live entertainment, the restaurant’s happy hour and half-price Martini Wednesdays have earned them a growing clientele that rarely misses the opportunity to imbibe and nosh.

Among the dozens of specialty cocktails, the always festive and refreshing Kamakaziberry Martini is among the most popular in Travinia’s arsenal. Bar manager Corey Livingston has been serving up these cocktails since his arrival at Travinia around five years ago. “The Kamakaziberry has great flavors and great visual appeal, year-round,” he said. “Everybody loves them.”

A raspberry-sugared rim delivers a sweet start to the tart, ice-cold Smirnoff raspberry vodka, sour mix, lime juice and Triple Sec. This cocktail goes down way too easy and, while not overly sweet, is reminiscent of fruit punch with Sweet Tart flavors. With more than two ounces of liquor per drink, two of these will make any hour happier. If you’re dying to try a Kamakaziberry at home, try the recipe below. —Paul Grimshaw
