Human trafficking forum to address this growing community issue
The terrible tragedy of human trafficking is happening all around us and a local group wants to raise awareness of this growing problem. Join the GFWC North Myrtle Beach Women’s Club on Wednesday, October 12, as they present a community forum on human trafficking at the conference center at Barefoot Resort in North Myrtle Beach. The topics to be discussed include how people are targeted and held against their will, who the victims are and how to recognize them and the kind of help needed by people who have been trafficked.
“Human Trafficking is scary because it can happen to anyone,” says Kowena Suckstorf, president elect of the GFWC North Myrtle Beach Women’s Club. “The idea of people selling people as a product is no less than slavery. This year alone there have been at least three confirmed cases in Horry County. Because of this, members of our club are compelled to help raise awareness and do what we can to help prevent it.”
The keynote speaker of the conference will be South Carolina State Attorney General Alan Wilson. Field experts, front-line workers and a panel discussion with audience participation will also take place at the forum. Admission is $15 per person and includes a boxed lunch.
