This year’s tour of homes stretches from Pawleys Island to Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina, and, as always, will wow and inspire you.
In The Dunes Club
Home of Steve and Lisa Campbell
The Campbells had a very specific wish list for their Mediterranean-style home in The Dunes Club.
“Italy is one of our favorite countries to visit, especially Tuscany,” says Lisa. “We love warm, welcoming colors. That was the theme that we used to select the colors for our walls and ceilings.”
Partnering with the design team at CRG, the couple also created a theme for each bedroom based on their special memories from their travels to Italy. For example, one of the rooms is the Positano Room, which displays artwork from Positano, as well as furniture and colors that support the theme.
“We love vibrant and colorful art, so we designed our home to ensure we had enough wall space for our paintings, plus special built-in cubbies to display the beautiful glass work we have collected in our travels around the world,” says Lisa. “Our artwork gives us energy, puts a smile on people’s faces and reflects the beauty that surrounds us every day.
Another must includes an open floor plan layout for entertaining in the main living area, kitchen, and the outdoor pool/deck area.
873 Preservation Circle, Pawleys Island
Home of Ricky and Malia Segal
The Segals’ custom-built Pawleys Island home is the second design project in which they partnered with Susan White at Classic Homes, and it does not disappoint.
The classic French arcadian-inspired ivory exterior gives way to bold colors and wallpaper schemes that make a statement. Think of the home as a mullet haircut, with business in the front and party in the back (or inside).
“I would call my style transitional, with contemporary art, but also more traditional elements of furniture and funky wall coverings,” says Malia Segal. “It’s not too beachy, but it’s also not dark and gloomy.”
The high vaulted ceiling that stretches above the great room is lined with thick beams for added architectural texture. The gourmet kitchen is a timeless beauty of light grey, baby blue, and brass accents. And the deep teal dining room, complemented by a gorgeous butler’s pantry, is a one-two knockout.
“The most important thing for us was the entertaining element, with lots of open space,” says Malia. “In fact, this year was the first time my husband and I were able to host the whole family with my grown children and granddaughter.
“And for the outdoors,” she continues, “we wanted the dogs to have a big backyard to play and where we can see them outside. Our neighbors see them outside all the time!”
7001 Belacino Blvd., Myrtle Beach
Home of Sam and Lisa Kinon
Sam and Lisa Kinon are perfectly happy feeling blue in their custom new-build home on the waterway. Dipped in a palette of blue-and-white chinoiserie, the home’s design strikes a balance between elegance and comfort.
“It is a light, airy, uplifting, and very happy place to live,” says Sam.
The Kinons turned to Jill Heaton of Jill Heaton Interiors right from the start during construction to bring their vision to life, including new furnishings and accessories, architectural plans down to room layouts and window placements, plus finishes like paint color choices, wallpaper, lighting, cabinet pulls, and more.
The results are moments of subdued blues in the home’s furniture upholstery, window treatments, the stunning floral wallpaper in the dining room, throw pillows, and rugs. Blue even peeks through the large sliding windows to the couple’s stunning pool and jacuzzi oasis outdoors.
“We love to cook and entertain family and friends,” says Sam. “We use our indoor and outdoor spaces that transition seamlessly from one to the other.”
“The Kinons’ home is so special because they were 100 percent committed to the wow factor,” says Heaton. “From the start, the clients knew they wanted their home to be a showstopper, while also accommodating specific needs for several members of their family without taking away from their aesthetic. I love that they trusted my vision for the space and never backed away from decisions that felt outside of their comfort zone.”
523 Derby Notch SW, Ocean Isle Beach, NC
Home of Billy and Elly Brundage
“Light, open, airy, and coastal” is how Elly Brundage describes her new forever home in Ocean Ridge Plantation in Ocean Isle Beach that was showcased in the 2024 Brunswick County Parade of Homes.
Elly, who worked on Wall Street for 38 years, and her husband, Billy, fell in love with North Carolina on a trip here from New York 10 years ago.
“During one of our trips, we took a drive to Ocean Ridge and as soon as we entered the gates, we looked at each other and thought we could absolutely live here,” says Elly. “It was love at first drive!”
After securing a builder, Elly then reached out to the design team of Geralyn Li Vecchi Marshburn at J&K Home Furnishings and Catherine “Kitty” Bliss to bring her vision for her new home to life.
“Kitty interviewed me and asked me what my vision was for my home, which was easy to answer,” says Elly. “I wanted my house to hug you upon entering, I wanted everyone to feel welcome and at home, and I wanted my house to feel like a spa at the beach.”
Elly’s wishes were granted, resulting in a relaxing beach vibe living space immersed in blues, creams, and coastal grays with a backdrop beach glass wall shade.
“I cook every day, so the kitchen was also key,” says Elly. “I entertain often and I like to have the kitchen open to seating, so I can entertain and participate at the same time in my home.
… Every time I walk through the front door, I feel like I should pinch myself and I’m reminded how blessed we are to live here. Our home is really an extension of our family and we are very grateful. … It’s exactly what we wanted and we are so happy to be starting our adventure as North Carolinians.”
2087 Teramo Drive, Myrtle Beach
Home of Phil and Elaine Saccente
The Saccentes’ Mediterranean-style home in the prestigious Members Club section of the Grande Dunes in Myrtle Beach is a visual marvel – and one the couple loves absolutely everything about, inside and out. It was built by Nations Homes.
Their primary residence is modern and relaxed, embracing a style Elaine describes as modern coastal cottage. Walls throughout are painted in shades of gray. The ceiling above the grand living room is coffered in a contrast of white and slate. In the kitchen, a sleek waterfall island is the stunning centerpiece, accented by a metal hood over the gas stove and charcoal tile under the cabinets. And the primary bath is like a work of art, highlighted by a gold-plated soaking tub and gold, modern finishes and ethereal lighting, which Elaine says she picked out on her own.
Outdoors, the backyard pool and patio is the couple’s great escape when they need a little downtime.
“We love to entertain and cook, and really love outdoor living,” says Elaine. “We are thrilled to be here in this home. And we just love Myrtle Beach.”
5800 Friendship Lane, Myrtle Beach
Home of Joe and Kelly Victoria
The Victorias partnered with the design team at Heritage Construction to customize their take on a modern farmhouse.
“I love the farmhouse look, and then Heritage made some tweaks,” says Kelly. “But I also like crown molding, so they added that in. Our old house had dark colors, and I wanted this one to have more natural colors, light, and welcoming with different pops of colors.”
She says she also didn’t see their old house in a development with HOA restrictions as one that could become an inheritance for their children one day. This four-bedroom farmhouse on three acres, along with their onsite company, Victory Plumbing, however, is an answer to prayers for their family of six.
“This home was designed to make a comfortable space for each member of the family, while being a gorgeous space that includes both of the hottest finishes from gold and black throughout,” says Sarah Malone, with Heritage. “We absolutely love how our client selected a perfect mix of neutral finishes, matte black, polished gold, and warm whites. … And the home features the largest pantry we have ever built at roughly 10- by- 10-foot in size that has great charm, with custom plywood shelving, butcher block countertops, prep sink, and printed tile.”
“When I think of my new home, a reference to ‘Under the Tuscan Sun’ comes to mind, where I want to get familiar with each room and get to love them,” says Kelly. “I want everything to feel welcoming.”
3906 North Ocean Blvd, Myrtle Beach
Home of Mary Beth and Emory Thompson
Emory Thompson’s parents originally bought this lovely oceanfront home on Ocean Boulevard on September 7, 1999, when his son was 2-years old, and now all 8,600 square feet has been completely remodeled.
One of the originals on the boulevard, dating back to the 1940s, the beach home has quite the history, with an expansion taking place in the 1960s.
“Because it was my parents’ house and they passed away, we wanted it newer, but beachy, and we wanted to do it where it would still honor and respect them,” says Emory. “It was very cut up, like a maze to go through my bedroom and bathroom to get to the other side.”
The Thompsons entrusted Debi Pinelli and her team at Coastal Luxe with the major project to transform the home, turning a bedroom into a dining room and a sauna and jacuzzi room they never used into a 1,000-square-foot kitchen and pantry.
“The indoor pool area is my favorite part of the house, where we sit and watch the sun rise,” says Emory. “We enjoy taking pictures of the sunrise – it’s never the same, day to day.”
Another one of his favorite things in the home is a two-story deck addition on the back of the home, complete with a spiral staircase to gain access to both levels.
“I think my mother would be very proud,” says Emory. “We plan on leaving this house to my son, now a strength and conditioning coach at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee.”
219 S Seaside Drive, Surfside Beach
Home of Andrew Entwistle
Take a walk on the sands of Surfside Beach, and you can’t miss this luxe, three-story oceanfront home towering above the coastline. It’s a beacon of blue fondly known as the “Surfside Beach Wander,” but there is much more that meets the eye beyond its brilliant curb appeal.
The custom-designed Wander boasts eight bedrooms, eight full bathrooms, and six workstations that redefine the idea of working from home, plus there’s a private heated pool, hot tub, and elevator access to all levels. The primary suite and five other bedrooms also feature private oceanfront balconies.
With panoramic ocean views, there isn’t a bad seat in the house. More wow design elements throughout the sleek, modern interior include coffered ceilings, shiplap and slat wood panel accent walls, marble accents, and high-end finishes throughout.
This Wander beach home offers unforgettable coastal living wonders indoors and out – almost as if it is its own vacation destination.
