Tickets available for dinner and a show

Murder, mystery, a fabulous dinner, and music are all on tap in Myrtle Beach on March 1! Mark that date, as the Horry County Literacy Council hosts its annual whodunit fundraiser—presented  by the talented students of the Socastee High School Performing Arts program and led by the drama department’s Meredith Taylor.

This year’s murder mystery is titled Drop Dead Disco and will be held once again at the Dunes Golf & Beach Club.

According to Teresa Burns, executive director of the literacy council, “We chose the disco theme because we thought it would be fun, and everyone loves disco music!”

In addition to dinner and what’s sure to be a delightful performance, the evening’s lineup includes appetizers, a silent auction, and the availability of two cash bars at the Dunes Club.
The murder mystery/dinner events are the literacy council’s signature fundraisers, and Burns notes that last year’s Dying for Chocolate performance was a big success, raising nearly $10,000 after expenses.

“The money is used in the general operating budget and to purchase reading materials from Proliteracy,” she explains. “We also give new books to school-age children that are in four recreation centers in Horry County.” Additionally the literacy council buys art supplies for those enrolled in the nonprofit’s monthly “Read and Create” program.

Tickets are $75/person.
