Oil Painting, 24” x 24” by Rosie Sandifer
Reared in Texas, Rosie Sandifer trained in portrait and figure painting, beginning her career as a portrait artist in the 1970s. In the ’80s, she evolved to the third dimension of sculpture, and the 1990s had her relocating to an artist colony in Colorado, where she continued both painting and sculpting. Today, Sandifer is an avid plein air and studio painter, enlarging smaller sketches into large landscapes of the Western states.
A collection of Sandifer’s work, including the above oil painting, The Chase, will be on display this winter in the Jennewein Gallery at Brookgreen Gardens. Featuring bronze sculptures and oil paintings that showcase her career to date, the pieces range from landscapes to portraits to Western-themed subjects to the joys of childhood to vignettes of people in everyday activities. Come enjoy Sandifer’s impressive body of work at Brookgreen, open daily and free with garden admission. The exhibition, Rosie Sandifer: A Life in Paintings & Sculpture, will run through February 14, 2021.
