Pair these Icewines and Sauternes with all your favorite holiday sweets

Inniskillin Vidal Icewine 2016

Niagara-on-the-Lake, Canada, $52 (375ml)

The Vidal is a hybrid grape that accounts for most of the Icewine that comes from Ontario. It matures late and combines natural acidity with firm structure. Fruity aromas of mango and lychee dominate a rich, savory mouthfeel and finish. Other Icewines made from the Riesling grape are also available from this famous winery.

Château de Rayne Vigneau 2010

Bordeaux, France, $20 (375ml)

This Château was founded in the 17th century and continues to produce elegant, sweet wines. Another blend of Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc, it is a glimmering gold color. This example is balanced, lush and glides across your palate with orange and apricot notes. Enjoy with decadent desserts and bleu cheeses. And another Sauternes trait: If stored properly, it can be enjoyed many years later.

Schmitt Söhne Icewine 2016

Rheinhessen, Germany, $32 (500ml)

Riesling grapes are hand harvested only after the first hard frost, so not every year produces a vintage. This example is yellow-gold in color with bold tropical fruit aromas. It’s luscious with a slightly syrupy flavor meant for crème brulee. And Schmitt Söhne also happens to be the number one importer of Riesling wines into the United States.

Maison Sichel Sauternes 2012

Bordeaux, France, $20 (375ml)

A rich, complex wine, composed of Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc grapes. The bouquet is a unique combination of orange and apricot honey with a hint of spicy aroma. The creamy palate is elegant with toasty notes and well-balanced with a touch of fruity freshness on the finish. Like most Sauternes, alcohol is 13% or more.

Jackson Triggs Reserve Cabernet Franc Icewine 2016

Niagara Peninsula, Canada, $60 (375ml)

Often named “Canada’s Best Winery,” Jackson Triggs was founded in 1993. They make all types of wine and have earned numerous awards. This wine is one of their best and made from the red Cabernet Franc grape. Tantalizing aromas with a broad, sweet palate and a gratifying raspberry finish. Great with anything chocolate.
