Frank’s chef takes third in seafood category at the World Food Championships

Chef Danny Smith

Anyone who has dined at Frank’s in Pawleys Island already knows the level of culinary talent behind the delicious and fresh dishes served in this beloved south end landmark. Now the world knows too.

Chef Danny Smith headed to Dallas in October to compete in the World Food Championships. Entering the Seafood Category of the elite competition, he served up a beautiful and delicious plate. His dish for the competition was a Parmesan Encrusted Yellow Tail Snapper with Butter Poached Shrimp over White Cheddar Grits, Roasted Golden Beets and Greens, with a Blue Crab Burrs Blanc. This culinary creation delighted judges, and Smith earned high marks. He took home third place in the Seafood Signature Dish portion of the competition.

“The World Food Championship was a great time,” said Smith. “[I] had the opportunity to see a lot of great food and to meet a lot of good people.”

Chef Smith is no stranger to competitive cooking. He took first place in the 2019 South Carolina Seafood Challenge from the Myrtle Beach Chapter of the American Culinary Federation. He then went on to compete in the Great American Seafood Cook-Off in New Orleans, a prestigious event in which he was one of just 15 finalists.

Congratulations to Chef Smith and to Frank’s!
