Learn how to talk “Birdie” with NIWB NERR’s “Talk Birdie to Me” program
North Inlet Winyah Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve (NIWB NERR) has an event that definitely isn’t just for the birds—it’s for everyone wanting to learn a little bit more about area fauna! You’re invited to join Reserve staff and volunteers on a short hike. The trail will take a path through the maritime forest and along the edge of the North Inlet Estuary. Along the way, you’ll be on the lookout for and identifying birds that are on the trail. Participants are encouraged to wear closed-toed shoes and to bring binoculars, but the Reserve can loan a pair to those that do not own binoculars. Participants will also be provided with a bird identification guide that you can use as well!
The event is intended for adults only, especially those new to birding and want to get into the hobby.
NIWB NERR was established in 1982 and is dedicated to conservation, research, education and stewardship of the area’s estuary. Estuaries serve as a home to thousands of species of birds, mammals, fish and other wildlife, along with providing educational opportunities like this one to the community.
