Carol Osborne and Kelli Barker are co-owners of Senior Adventures in Learning and Travel (SALT). Their business offers online classes, in-person classes and clubs, local day excursions, overnight regional trips, and through Premier World Discovery, national and international tours for those 50 and older.
The two women were the director and assistant director of Coastal Carolina University’s Academic Outreach division and thus responsible for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) until July 2020. When CCU temporarily suspended that program, Osborne and Barker retired. They then decided to create a lifelong learning program of their own.
As for advice for women starting out in business: “Get good guidance about the types of businesses and tax consequences, know the laws about licensing, devote some funds to PR periodically, and keep careful records.
