Legacy Antiques & Consignments loves to help make a space unique with decorative touches you won’t find at your average furniture store. “Or, if you’re just treasure hunting and not decorating a space, we have anything from antique car parts and records to BB guns and vintage clothing—and I can’t forget my favorite thing to buy and sell–jewelry,” says store owner Arielle Abbott. “We carry sterling, vintage-costume and estate pieces, and if you love beautiful stones and crystals, we’re your shop!”
The store recently added a “Locals Corner” that allows the staff to build a relationship with local artisans and currently features painter Haley C. Smith, the pottery of Franklin G. Burroughs-Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum Curator Liz Miller, and much more.
Legacy was founded by Arielle’s mother-in-law, Judi Abbott, in 1988. Judi has always had a passion for beautiful things and that, along with her eye for detail, made Legacy the perfect opportunity to create a spot to find quality, unique items. About three years ago, Arielle and her husband came on board to see what the next generation of Abbotts could bring to the antiques world.
“I was excited to put my background in art to use in new ways, like designing an aesthetically pleasing retail space; learning about different styles of interior design, furniture and decorative arts, as well as jewelry and clothing; and becoming a good buyer for our shop,” says Arielle. “Since taking over the business, we have added some modern touches throughout the shop, so we can offer a range of period furniture, from Early American up to modern-day styles.”
As you travel through this 10,000-square-foot adventure, the eclectic blend of items will keep you entertained.
Like a true antique shop, technology has stayed far away from the business side of things at Legacy. But Legacy Antiques was recently introduced to the digital world and is online at LegacyAntiques.net, and on Facebook and Instagram: @legacyantiques. Follow along for updates on the shop’s new items and to be in the know about any special sales. The website will soon have an online shop, so customers can make purchases with just a few clicks.
Arielle looks forward to expanding Legacy’s business to the online world. “Since we are in a tourist town, we have shoppers from all over the country. They always ask, ‘Do y’all have an online store? We don’t want to wait for next summer to come back!’ I know it will be a game changer for us, and I look forward to it!”
Arielle’s advice to women who are starting out on their own: “Stay positive, hydrated, and go to bed at 9 p.m. Running a business is like getting a new job, having zero training and nobody is there to answer any of your questions. Trust your instincts, do the research and don’t lose your passion for why you started it in the first place. “
