Conway Glass is co-owned by Barbara (pictured right) and Ed Streeter. Established in 1986, Conway Glass began as a small stained-glass studio on the back porch of their home on the Waccamaw River. One year later, the couple rented a building on Main Street in downtown Conway, South Carolina. They grew the company and offered many commercial and residential glass services over the years. In 2016, they renovated a historic 100-year-old-brick building, the perfect setting for the traditional craft of glass-making. It was then they began to concentrate on developing and refining our stained glass and blown glass products.
Conway Glass offers in-store glass repair and replacement, along with quality DIY shower doors for local homeowners. They also create holiday ornaments that are available in pop-up glass galleries and on their website starting in November through to December.
Conway Glass has provided many interesting displays over the years. They’ve partnered with Brookgreen Gardens for the Summer Light, Art by Night exhibit this year. Over the summer, they also handcrafted a 12 x 6-foot stained glass window for the Brenda and Dick Rosen Galleries to celebrate the 90th birthday of Brookgreen Gardens. The company is also going to provide the blown glass for an underwater display for a new holiday exhibition at the South Carolina Aquarium in Charleston, as well as lighted blown glass sculptures on display at Brookgreen Gardens’ Nights of a Thousand Candles.
“In November 2020, we added a YouTube Channel to teach glass-making online free of charge. Since then, over 65,000 folks from around the world have watched our videos,” says Streeter. “This year, we’ll be working to improve our livestreams and producing new how-to videos about glass-making.”
For women who are just starting out, Barbara says to “Make sure that you have a business plan, and don’t skip over the complex parts. If you can’t do the planning before you begin, find someone who can help. Then, jump in and go for it!”
