Coastal Paws Pet Resort is a Luxury Pet Resort that opened in October 2020. Opening a luxury pet resort had been a dream for Brandon and Kristen Downey (pictured left). After relocating to the Grand Strand in 2017, they recognized a void for a safe and upscale pet resort for their two dogs, Zoey and Elly. They decided that they would fill this void with Coastal Paws Pet Resort and offer luxury dog boarding, doggie daycare and cat boarding; coupling their love for pets and experience in the pet care industry.
Kristen, a Physical Therapist in the human world since 2006 and a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Therapist since 2016, always had a desire to dedicate her life to animals. Kristen serves as Coastal Paws Director of Operations and ensures the resort takes excellent care of your best friend while you are away.
The facility was built using the industry’s best boarding suites, flooring and HVAC components. Coastal Paws Pet Resort also offers 18 webcams that owners have access to 24/7. Their unmatched attention to individual pet guests sets them apart from other pet boarding facilities. This dedication to quality service earned them the best pet boarding award for North Strand News in 2021 and their nomination for new business of the year from Destination North Myrtle Beach.
Downey’s advice to women starting their own business? “Planning and market research is important, but your will to succeed will dictate if you’re successful.”
Coastal Paws Pet Resort is planning an expansion to allow for the accommodation of more boarding and daycare guests.
The organization is involved in many charitable causes, including, assistance for K9s for Warriors. This organization provides service animals to military veterans.
Downey strives to live by her company’s motto, which is “the best care for your best friend!” With 16-hour workdays as her norm, you can be certain the Coastal Paws’ success is due in large part to Downey’s dedication and work ethic.
