Women in Business 2021 - Cheryl Newby Gallery

Kaitee Floyd, Owner

Cheryl Newby Gallery represents 19 nationally and regionally recognized painters and sculptors. We limit our artists and offerings to those who have achieved a high level of accomplishment reflected in their distinctive style. Paintings, sculpture, and ceramics are among the offerings.

For Kaitee Floyd (pictured left), the gallery represents seven years of hard work and dedication. Starting as a Gallery Assistant in 2014 and being promoted to Gallery Director in 2016, Floyd had the opportunity to purchase the business from its retiring owner, Cheryl Newby, in July of this year. The two worked closely together, with Newby teaching Floyd the ins and outs of the business. Over the course of her career, she learned how to help curate exhibits along with developing meaningful relationships with artists and collectors alike.

“I have big goals for the gallery! I like to think that this is an art gallery in a small town with a big city reputation, and one of my biggest goals is to maintain that with my own added flair,” says Floyd. “When you wander into the gallery, I want it to feel approachable and welcoming, an unpretentious place where you feel comfortable and can spend any amount of time.”

Floyd’s biggest goal is to continue to represent talented artists and get the local community excited about art. Living by the Romero Britto quote, “Art is too important not to share,” Floyd says the opportunity to own and run the gallery is a dream come true. Floyd’s biggest inspiration? “My daughter, Millee is the inspiration behind everything I do.  I am driven forward because of her; I hope that one day she will love art and business just as much as I do!”

In addition to their fine art exhibits, Cheryl Newby Gallery also provides art consultation and installation services to the community. Floyd hopes to continue to expand services and outreach programs, with hopes to one day host workshops and demos from various artists.
