Catherine and Carl’s modern love story came to fruition thanks to an online dating app. Matched through the site, the two then met in person for brunch at Blueberry’s Grill in June 2019. At the time, Carl was an army squad leader in the 82nd Airborne Infantry at Fort Bragg, N.C., and soon began traveling to North Myrtle Beach nearly every weekend to see Catherine.

He completed his five years of service in May 2020 and moved to Myrtle Beach, as he knew that Catherine was the woman he wanted to marry. The two enjoyed seeing each other regularly as their love for each became immeasurable.

On the night of December 31, 2020, the couple attended a New Year’s celebration on the Carolina Girl Yacht out of Charleston. Carl had reached out to the staff members and with their help planned the most romantic proposal that Catherine could ever dream of.  The yacht went off its planned route near the banks of the Stono River, where its residents were shooting off fireworks to celebrate the New Year. On the bow of the boat, Carl got on one knee and asked Catherine to marry him and the two rang in the New Year with joy as they celebrated their new engagement.

The wedding ceremony was held at Ocean Drive Presbyterian Church in North Myrtle Beach, where Catherine is a member and had been playing the violin in the ODPC orchestra for years. Pastor Daryle Bush officiated. A beautiful string trio set the tone for the enchanting evening as Catherine walked down the aisle toward her future husband. They shared their personal vows, expressing their love for one another and making promises as husband and wife. The two were delighted to be announced as Mr. and Mrs.Curtiss in such a beautiful church, with their loved ones there to witness the start of their new nuptials!

The wedding reception was catered by and held at the Surf Golf and Beach Club in North Myrtle Beach, where Catherine’s dad played golf as a teen. The couple opted for a classic, timeless decor of ivory and blush florals by DG Senter Designs, with ornate mirrors displaying their welcoming sign and a seating chart in elegant calligraphy. The weather was perfect as the newly betrothed and their guests watched the sun set across the beautiful landscape and danced the night away in the stunning Hussey Hall.

The bride wore a wedding gown from The Dressing Room of Pawley’s Island. Flawless Bridal Hair and Makeup along with Holliewood Brows and Beauty provided assistance.

Catherine and Carl reside in Myrtle Beach. Carl graduates from Coastal Carolina University with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting this May and works part-time at Smith Sapp CPAs. Catherine is the 8th grade guidance counselor at Myrtle Beach Middle School.
