“Waves of the Future”

“Waves of the Future”

The Chicora Rotary Club of Myrtle Beach presents its 13th annual “Waves of the Future” fundraiser for Horry County Schools on Sunday, April 13. The live event hosted by The Carolina Opry Theater in Myrtle Beach showcases the theatrical talents of more than 600 students from grades K-12. Horry County Schools Fine Arts Director Scott Scriven has been involved with “Waves” for the past 10 years or so, and has been instrumental in expanding the program. Initially, the program celebrated singers only, but has since broadened to include “all of the fine arts areas, including voice, choral, dance, orchestras, visual, and more,” he notes. There will be 18 performances on this day, from hundreds of auditions. Additionally, students will have submitted their very own logos for the event, which results in a cash award and visual display at The Carolina Opry Theatre, Scriven explains. Typically, more than $20,000 is given to the Fine Arts programs of Horry County Schools. The Carolina Opry Theatre, 8901 N. Kings Hwy. Sunday, 4 p.m. $19.95 +.
