Featuring East Coast University Piano Competition Winner Benjamin Luo, The Long Bay Symphony will be performing one of the most beloved masterpieces of all time, the Piano Concerto No. 2 by late Romantic Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninoff. The work is filled with lush harmonies and sweeping, unforgettable melodies, some of which have been incorporated into popular songs by Frank Sinatra, Eric Carmen, and others. Also on tap: Florence Price’s Symphony No. 1, the first orchestral work by an African American woman to be performed by a major U.S. orchestra, exemplifying the early 20th-century American Neo-Romantic style, while infusing European traditions with native hymn tunes, spirituals and dances. Additionally, the Symphony will be playing a world-premiere piece by Pawleys Island native and Long Bay Youth Symphony alumnus, Joseph R. Kaz’s Flourish and Air. A post-concert reception and dinner will follow at the Grande Dunes Ocean Club, open to all patrons, and dinner tickets are sold through the Symphony office for $45.
