This has been a banner year for babies born to the North Carolina Zoo, the largest natural habitat zoo in the world. Established in 1974, the zoo is celebrating “40 wild years” in 2014.

His education at East Carolina University, plus travel and workshops in Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Europe and China, have broadened his pottery making scope, both artistically and scientifically.
Potter Michael Mahan of From the Ground Up applies ancient and modern firing techniques to create his signature pieces depicting bare trees. “The ancient Celts loved trees. Their alphabet consisted of twenty symbols, each representing a sacred tree. In turn, each tree represented a feeling, attribute or essence.”
