Summer Guide 2024 - High Art in the Lowcountry

Brookgreen Gardens’ Summer Lights combines  strolls through the sculpture garden with music, food and cocktails.

For those who prefer classical and orchestral pop, the Long Bay Symphony presents a diverse program of music year-round at various venues, both indoor and outdoor. The award-winning Muzika! From Varna International will return June 1-30 to make its bold statement throughout the Grand Strand, offering oratorio, chamber music, and chorale ensembles that feature New York Metropolitan Opera stars, the Met’s conductor, Gregory Buchalter, and best of Broadway musicals featuring current and up-and-coming stars of tomorrow. 

Brookgreen Gardens Summer Light: Art (and live music!) by Night.  The Grand Strand’s serene, agrarian, and artistic cultural gem, Brookgreen Gardens (now in its 93rd year) will again host its enormously popular Summer Light: Art by Night program each Wednesday and Saturday evening, 6-10 p.m. from June 5 – August 24. Regional acts of every variety will take the stage for early evening performances within the beautiful campus of this breathtaking and historically important sculpture garden. This is a ticketed event. Food trucks, wine, and beer available.

All That Jazz!
Jazz fans can find live jazz at Travinia Italian Kitchen in The Market Common, Aspen Grille, 88 Keys Piano Bar, Carolina Seafood & Steakhouse in Myrtle Beach; The Star Tavern in North Myrtle Beach;  The Soundhouse in nearby Shallotte, N.C., and other area venues.

If you’re looking for live music while shopping or dining, head to Broadway at the Beach or Barefoot Landing, both of which offer numerous restaurants and bars that feature live music. Broadway at the Beach in Myrtle Beach is home to the Hard Rock Café, Bar Louie and The Hangout, offering live music all summer long. Barefoot Landing in North Myrtle Beach also features live music at several locations, including the House of Blues, the Big Chill Island House, Taco Mundo, Dick’s Last Resort, and at its lakeside amphitheater.

And Music Everywhere else!
Coastal communities throughout the Grand Strand offer live music at countless bars and eateries year-round, and even more during peak season. Head inland to Carolina Forest or Conway to discover additional places for live music to suit every taste. There are too many places to name but know that you’re invited to come out and sing along, or become the star of the show at numerous Karaoke-friendly bars.
