Salty hair? Don’t care. Bring your A game to Native Son’s annual competition.

The Salt Games are just that—salty water, salty hair and salty skin. This two-day beach festival and competition hosted by Native Sons consists of 15 different competitions, including a Crossfit Challenge, Paddleboard Race, Beach Brawl Wrestling Tournament, Skateboard Competition, Surf Off, Volleyball Tournaments, Lifeguard Games and various runs for adults and kids. Start your day getting zen with an oceanfront yoga session or go ahead and dive right into the Ron Jon Pro/Am Surf Off.

Not into the physical activity? The event is free to attend and open to all ages. Food and drink vendors will be open all day long.

Think this event couldn’t get any better? Think again. This year the Salt Games is hosting the Surf Dreams Foundation, which provides less fortunate children with surfing dreams, surfboards, leashes, wet suits and more. Support some proud little groms in the making by bringing your extra surfing gear you no longer use.

The competitive events are the real star of the Salt Games. All sorts of sporting challenges are offered. Not only are you playing for bragging rights for the year, but there are also some serious cash prizes offered—up to $1,000 for first place. Many events are free to register, but your prize events run anywhere from $15 to $150 to compete. Also, many of the activities are qualifying events for larger competitions so be sure to check out which strikes your fancy.

So slap on the sunblock and kick off summer with this Myrtle Beach favorite. Even though they claim to be salty, the Salt Games are pretty sweet.
