A unique example of this varietal originating from California, where it earned a 90-point rating from Wine Enthusiast. Pear hints on the nose, with a rich mouthfeel that brings forth stone fruit flavors. On the finish is a light hint of toasted oak. Pair with lighter dishes, pastas and cheeses.
Santa Margherita 2014 DOC Alto Adige
Despite being the highest priced Pinot Grigio in both grocery stores and wine shops at $20, it is a strong seller. In fact, when it’s on a restaurant wine list the usual price is more than $40. Dry and stylish with lots of fruit, citrus and apple aromas. White fish, chicken and pasta go well with this one from Northern Italy.
Kris Pinot Grigio 2014 IGT Delle Venezie
Always popular and at a popular price. Citrus and apple aromas, fresh, crisp and light-bodied: a perfect example of the grape. Flavors are acacia flower, lime, honey and a touch of almond. Easy to enjoy before a meal or with light and simple dishes.
Ruffino Lumina Pinot Grigio 2014 IGT Delle Venezie
Ruffino is one of the largest and most respected wine brands in Italy. Perhaps more well-known for their red wines, their whites are also quite good. This example offers apricots, apples and floral hints on the nose. It is crisp and lively, with herbal notes on the finish. Can be served with pastas and lighter fare such as mild cheeses and salads.
Maso Canali Pinot Grigio 2014 Trentino
The grapes come from a 500-year-old estate and are hand-picked. The nose gives off citrus aromas and floral notes, followed by apricot, nectarine and peach flavors. Similar to Santa Margherita, it is full-flavored, dry and more acidic than many Pinot Grigios, so it can handle creamy pasta dishes, salmon and gouda cheese.
