With our winter weather as fickle as the breezes that blow, it’s nice to have the option to dine al fresco. Frank’s Outback, the cleverly tented, semi-outdoor cousin of Pawleys Island staple Frank’s, offers this indoor/outdoor dining highbred year-round. With ways to warm and/or cool the space within the open-sided tent “outback” that is the restaurant’s roof and walls, Frank’s Outback remains a popular destination for the most discriminating dinners.
Both Frank’s and Frank’s Outback offer a nod to the French, with Frank’s offering casual fine dining inside on white linen tablecloths. Frank’s Outback is literally out back. It offers seasonal specials, creative entrees ($27–$36) including wood-fired Scottish Salmon, Jumbo Sea Scallops and pan-fried stuffed quail with andouille sausage. A chophouse menu offers a la carte steaks ($44–$46). Where the restaurants really differ is in the rest of the menu.
Wood-fired pizzas ($14–$16) are served in any number of combinations including several with toppings not usually seen—shredded short rib, chicken and shrimp, lamb with Arugula and goat cheese.
A dozen appetizers ($5–$10) include fried okra with roasted red pepper dipping sauces, fried shrimp, calamari, pimento cheese, tuna nachos and more.
Frank’s Outback is perfect for a casual light bite after work, an intimate dinner for two, or large parties, all in a one-of-a-kind setting that’s worth a closer look.
