Sandwiches by Frankie & Eatery may be the best thing since sliced bread
Sandwiches stick with you. I don’t mean it in that “watch your waistline; clog your arteries” kind of stick. I’m talking about the kind of stick that happens in those fond memories from the neighborhood deli, maybe from working behind the counter at one. Fresh-baked French rolls, smoked ham and baby Swiss shaved off the slicer, ripe red beefsteak tomatoes stacked high. That’s culinary comfort that sticks.
Sandwiches stuck with Frankie Basile. It’s why he opened his deli, Sandwiches by Frankie & Eatery, a little more than a year ago in the Galleria Shopping Center.
The New York native worked in a deli after eighth period every day as a teen, went to the New York Restaurant School in NYC, then put his talents to work at the Windows on the World Restaurant at the World Trade Center, Eastchester Fish Gourmet and other restaurants. But he waited to invest his talents and a down payment on his own place until he moved to Myrtle Beach. And thank goodness he did.
Basile sends home sandwiches that are not easily forgotten, too. Meats sliced to order. Dozens of combos, endless options. I had Frankie’s Combo, which consisted of thin-sliced roast beef, pepper jack cheese, sweet peppers, lettuce, tomato and a slathering of mayo on a sub roll. Deli delish.
Name a meat, Basile has it; cheeses—the same. Or skip the meat and go with a No Meat Required hero topped with sliced cucumber, roasted red peppers, shredded carrots, sweet onions, lettuce, tomato, mozzarella and Italian dressing.
Basile also serves up hot sandwiches, like eggplant or chicken parmesan, stromboli, salads and a home-style breakfast. All ingredients that go into these delicious creations are fresh. And that’s what sticks.
