Styx takes the stage at the House of Blues

The late ‘70s and early ‘80s saw the rise of a band that mixed progressive rock with elements of ballads, musical theater and heavy guitar riffs. Styx, known for hits “Come Sail Away,” “Mr. Roboto,” and “Show Me the Way,” will bring its unique style to the House of Blues on February 16. The Chicago-formed group started performing together in 1972.

The band’s big break came with the release of its seventh album, The Grand Illusion, in 1977. After the release of 1983’s Kilroy Was Here, competitiveness and creative tensions caused the band to part ways. After lukewarm solo careers, Styx reconvened in 1989.

As one of the few bands to score a top ten hit in three decades, Styx’s time-tested style still rocks.
