Hike Hobcaw: A Plantation Christmas

Outdoors

Though the iconic symbol of the Christmas season is the tree, many other interesting floras help us celebrate the season. Embark on this 2.5-mile hike and take in Spanish moss, yaupon holly and even mistletoe. Inspecting the favorite greenery of the former plantation residents leads to exciting stories of the past, such as how Christmas was celebrated in the former slave quarters. Be sure to bundle up and bring a lunch to go with this giant slice of holiday history.
Hobcaw Barony, 20 Hobcaw Road. Thursday, 9 a.m.–1 p.m. $25. (843) 546-4623, www.hobcawbarony.org
