Inexpensive and always ready to enjoy, try one of these light reds from southern Burgundy

Georges Duboeuf Beaujolais Villages 2009
France, $9

From the “King of Beaujolais,” this wine is easy to enjoy. It has an aroma of fresh grapes and an intense, bright cherry color with purplish tints. A complete wine that’s ideal for all occasions,  serve it slightly chilled with lighter foods and mild cheeses.

Louis Jadot Beaujolais Villages 2010 France, $10
A full-bodied example from one of the most respected labels in Burgundy. Fifteen percent of the grapes come from Cru (best growth) areas. A plump wine with notes of strawberry, black cherry and spice. Like all Beaujolais, from 100 percent Gamay grapes. Serve with hors d’oeuvres, mild cheeses and poultry.

Henry Fessy Morgon 2009 France, $14
From 50-year-old-vines, this Cru wine offers a bouquet of delicious cassis and other black fruits. Supple and mellow tannins with good balance and an intense palate with a long finish. Pair with beef and other grilled meats, wild games, mushrooms and rich cheeses.

Domaine du Pavillon de Chavannes Ambassades 2010 France, $24
This CÔte de Brouilly Beaujolais comes from the 12 best acres on Mont Brouilly in the southern part of the Cru Beaujolais region. Heavy on fruit character and body, it can hold up against many of the Burgundies produced farther north. It is served in French embassies around the world and will age longer than most Beaujolais.
