The significance of a community is measured by the output of its people and the functions of vital establishments. In this view, the Georgetown County Council aims to improve its community two-fold. With the Waccamaw Library launching its “Challenge to Build,” the community is geared to re-build an essential and historic facility that will improve the public for whom it’s intended.

Through the cooperation of the Development Committee and the Georgetown County Council, $3 million in capital improvement funds have already been secured.  And as currently designed, the Library Center–Waccamaw will be a one-story, 16,762-square-foot structure on Willbrook Boulevard, a site donated by the Georgetown County Public School System.

However, the current budget is not sufficient enough to supply the programs and services to meet the needs of the rapidly growing population.  Their goal: To enlarge the building to 21,000 square feet and to improve the capabilities and interior appearance as well as provide additional technology resources, books, and furnishings.
