The longest continuously running shag dance contest in the United States, the Twenty-eighth Annual National Shag Dance Championships preliminary round will be held in January. Along with the preliminary competition, Friday night will also include Shagging with the Stars, which helps to raise money for the Beth Mitchell Scholarship for competitors or children of competitors. Community leaders and local celebrities are paired with a professional shag dancer, allotted twelve hours to practice, and then compete. Saturday includes a special College Championship.
