The longtime friendship of Sarah and Emory grew into a beautiful relationship

The loving bond of the Wests has been rooted here in the South in the Conway and Aynor areas.
Best friends since elementary school, Sarah Carroll and Emory West grew up together – even carpooled together. But they didn’t officially start dating until their freshman year of college.
“We grew up being very close friends – especially in high school,” says Sarah. “We were in many of the same classes and enjoyed singing together in chorus the most. We weren’t sure why, but we trusted each other more than anyone else, and still did not know each other as well as we believed we did.”
That friendship evolved into a true love for one another, which culminated into Emory’s proposal during a hiking trip with friends in the mountains on Valentine’s Day weekend.
“While we were hiking, he was acting nervous and kept wanting to stop for pictures in different places, but I still did not suspect anything,” recalls Sarah. “He chose a spot we passed once, and we circled back to take a photo. He walked me to the edge of a waterfall, and we posed for the camera. We were so high up from the bottom of the waterfall and my legs were shaking. I was trying to get off the cliff as quickly as possible, when he knelt down to ‘tie his shoe,’ and I said, ‘Now?’ and that is when I saw the ring.”
Wedding plans ensued, with the main event taking place on April 20, 2024, at Wildberry Farms in Marion, South Carolina. The outdoor ceremony had a stunning backdrop of the natural beauty of the trees and leas of the farm, with added pops of pinks from Sarah’s bridal party’s bouquets. She walked down the aisle in a Southern romantic off-the-shoulder gown.
“It was absolutely beautiful,” says Sarah. “Everything about the day was special. We are very sentimental people who care more about relationships than things.”
The reception followed in Wildberry’s modern-rustic barn venue onsite, where guests dined and danced the night away under flower clouds hanging ethereally from the beams in therafters high above, Sarah’s favorite moment of her décor.
“They made the space feel so finished and inviting,” she says. “We also had the tables set up so that our entire bridal party and closest family and friends were sitting next to us when we sat down to eat. This was so special to have them with us.”
She shares that more special moments from the reception include her choreographed daddy-daughter dance that she says, “was so much fun!” and Emory recording himself singing the couple’s first dance, as Emory and Sarah are musicians.
“Lots of planning went into the wedding, of course, but when the day came, we were relaxed and so excited,” she says. “Even though it wasn’t perfect, it was perfectly imperfect. Our families, friends, florist, photographer, videographer, caterer, venue owners, and many more all made our day special!”
Sarah, who works at the Conway Chamber of Commerce as the Membership Engagement Coordinator, and Emory, who works with Horry Electric Cooperative in their engineering/surveying department, still live as husband and wife in their hometown of Conway, South Carolina.
