Mariah Ramsey and Errett Jacks tied the knot on a cloudless spring day while standing under the sublime veil of Spanish moss dripping from live oaks on the grounds of Wachesaw Plantation in Murrells Inlet that overlooks the Waccamaw River.
Mariah, originally from Kenova, West Virginia, and Errett, from Central, South Carolina, first met as medical students at Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in Charleston, South Carolina. But it wasn’t in person.
“Before meeting in person, we messaged back and forth, letter style, every few days via text message because I was in Uganda on an Ob/Gyn rotation,” says Mariah. “There was lots of anticipation leading up to our first date! Our first date was at Amen Street, and we still love celebrating our anniversary there with oysters.”
This was a sweet prelude to the proposal, which happened while visiting Errett’s family in Central during a stop on the campus of Clemson University.
“Errett proposed in front of the President’s Home!” says Mariah. “Errett’s mother was a vice president at Clemson and they’re both alumni. We love the Tigers!”
Bride and groom, however, decided on keeping their wedding destination in the Lowcountry of South Carolina in the beauty of Murrells Inlet on April 6, 2024.
“We were living nearby during Errett’s residency,” says Mariah. “The beautiful Lowcountry backdrop was everything I had dreamed of! It was so special having all our family and friends from near and far there to celebrate us becoming one.”
Layered on top of the natural beauty of this romantic backdrop were Mariah’s color palette choice in linens and florals of Southern peach, blushes, ivory, and sage greens. Her bridal gown was a simple, gorgeous traditional cut, and her bridesmaids donned champagne dresses.
Errett finished his tux with a handcrafted feather bow tie.
The celebration continued after the couple sealed their “I do’s” with a kiss under the live oaks, surrounded by family and friends as they moved to the music by Joyful Entertainment DJ.
“The reception was under the oaks as well,” says Mariah. “I loved having the bistro lights strung around and the oaks overhead as the sun went down.”
The Jacks just moved to Columbia, South Carolina, where Errett is completing a fellowship in ultrasound over the next year and Mariah works as an ER physician assistant.
“And then we hope to settle in the Upstate,” says Mariah.
