Loris Bog-Off Festival

Loris Bog-Off Festival

Bring your appetites and get ready to have some fun at the 44th Annual Loris Bog-Off Festival in downtown Loris. The festival, sponsored by the Loris Chamber of Commerce, began as a chicken bog cooking contest and has evolved into the huge event it is today, with attendance numbers now reaching more than 30,000. Chicken bog generally consists of chicken, rice, sausage and spices of your choosing, though over the years there have been many variations of this basic recipe. First place in the bog cookoff wins a trophy, bragging rights, and $1,000. The cooking contest (with tickets sold for samples) is still considered the main focus but is accompanied by over 200 vendors, two stages of entertainment, a car show, and a huge children’s area. Stage performances include local dance schools, school choruses and local bands. The festival ends with a fireworks show and a free concert from a national act. After you have dined on chicken bog, enjoy a funnel cake or homemade ice cream from one of the many food vendors. Downtown Loris. Saturday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Free admission.
