Immerse yourself in the Gullah Geechee culture with Brookgreen Gardens’ Gullah Geechee Junkanoo. This event is a masquerade and cultural celebration that will feature live music, children’s crafts, informational sessions and cultural demonstrations for all to enjoy. Patrons are encouraged to dress in colorful, casual, or Afro-centric clothing. Junkanoo is a Bahamian festival of costumes, music, dance, and a celebration of freedom that is traditionally held on New Year’s Day, and is one of the many related cultures to Gullah Geechee, all within the African Diaspora.
