Foraging: An Eco-Tour Series

Foraging: An Eco-Tour Series

Historically, Native Americans, European settlers, and the enslaved of the South Carolina lowcountry, have used their knowledge of native plants for sustenance and healing. Join Hobcaw Barony staff on this installment of an eco-foraging tour to discover the native plants growing in the upland forests of Hobcaw Barony. Discussion will revolve around historical uses for the plants, the ecology of the area, and historical anecdotes relating to this region. After foraging, participants will gather at Bellefield to relax and enjoy a sampling of tea and tastings from that day’s journey. (Exertion Level: High – requires walking on uneven terrain, standing for long periods.) Reservations required. Hobcaw Barony, 22 Hobcaw Rd. Wednesday, 1:30-4:30 p.m. $40.
