Dr. Andrea Richmond-Mart always knew she wanted to be a doctor—an obstetrician, to be exact. Growing up in a medical household—both of Andrea’s parents are physicians—she was aware of the long hours, the medical profession’s challenges, and the rewards of helping others. For Andrea, that means women helping women.

“I am honored to join Carolina OB/GYN and practice medicine here in the Lowcountry where I grew up. Many of my patients are friends, neighbors, and new mothers such as myself,” she says.

Andrea, who was pregnant during the pandemic, gave birth to her son, Oliver, in March. “I share a special bond with expectant and new mothers.”

Andrea earned her medical degree from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in 2016. Her residency was at the Medical University of South Carolina. She is pending board certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology and received several awards through the MUSC Medical Residency Program.

Andrea’s specialties include:

  • Robotic surgery
  • Prenatal care and childbirth
  • The treatment of women’s issues, including menopausal problems, breast cancer, and cervical cancer
  • Pelvic and urinary infections and corrective pelvic surgery

“I share Carolina OB/GYN’s philosophy of compassionate care for women by women. I love that our patients are treated like friends and family, and my colleagues work together for the best medical outcomes,” Andrea says. “I am especially proud that we are the only practice to offer 24/7 midwives, onsite 4-D imaging, and Centering Pregnancy.“
