Brookgreen celebrates with thousands of candles

Nights of a Thousand Candles is one of Myrtle Beach's most well-known holiday traditions and is a total transformation of Brookgreen Gardens in Murrells Inlet. A few nights out of each year, the gardens turn into a winter wonderland under the glow of twinkling lights and thousands of hand-lit candles.

Explore the 9,100 acres of beauty filled with the Christmas spirit, thanks to carolers, handbells and warm cider. More than 5,500 candles surround a variety of sculptures and plant life. Shutterbugs, be sure to bring your camera.

The event is so popular it has been extended to nine nights this season. Of all the things to see and do in the Grand Strand over the holidays, Nights of a Thousand Candles deserves a special spot on everyone's calendar.

Tips for your trip:
• Thursday evenings are the least crowded
• Come between 4 and 5 p.m. and see the candles being lit
• Dusk is the best time to take pictures
