Their October 5, 2013, wedding was a historical affair, honoring not only their history, but that of the Waccamaw region as well
The wedding of Johanna Nicole Whitmer to Benjamin Martin Ward was a history lesson of sorts, highlighting the rich past of the Waccamaw Neck region.
The reception was held at Wachesaw Plantation. Johanna and Benjamin chose creative ways to incorporate the features of the area, including labeling their tables with the names of the rice plantations along the Waccamaw Neck. Rice was included in the votive candles to enhance the theme.
Kentucky-born Johanna honored her home state with table arrangements in silver Mint Julep cups. This favorite Southern concoction was also the couple’s signature drink. For a handmade touch, their wedding favors were homemade fig jams in several flavors, made from the fig tree at their Pawleys Island home.
