Marker 42 Lowcountry Cantina is Georgetown’s newest Tex-Mex hot spot
Marker 42 Lowcountry Cantina is a sweet spot on historic Georgetown’s Front Street that has been spicing things up along the river since Cinco de Mayo 2022.
As the name implies, the newer restaurant puts a Southern twist on its Tex-Mex cuisine, which has wowed locals and those dropping in for a visit to our coastal destination. Take a seat at the buoy bell-shaped bar or at any of the tables scattered throughout the quaint dining room (or snag one of the seating areas alfresco).
You’re in for a treat from the start, with appetizers balanced with a little Lowcountry and a twist of Tex-Mex, plus the spice of peppers and a shot of tequila. Try the South of the Border Fried Green
Tomatoes drizzled with agave syrup and cotija cheese, served with jalapeño jelly and prickly pear jelly; the Maseca Fried Shrimp to be delightfully dipped in mango jalapeño sauce; Smoked Pork Wings, the chipotle- and brown sugar-rubbed pork shanks topped with Lowcountry peach barbecue sauce and served with cilantro lime avocado ranch for dipping; and Cantina Hushpuppies stuffed with shrimp, jalapeños, and street corn that you can dip in bourbon butter.
Dig into Southern Greens salads that are tossed with fresh, local ingredients and spices that travel south of the border, like Cheerwine carnitas, tequila lime grilled chicken, grilled ribeye and shrimp, street corn, and more. Then there are the cantina’s dressings, including chipotle ranch, creamy roasted red pepper, cilantro lime vinaigrette, amidst other tasty toppings.
Marker 42’s creative collection of Southern/Tex-Mex taco combos are amazing, such as the pork belly burnt ends smothered in Lowcountry peach barbecue sauce, grilled smokey chipotle grouper, chili lime shrimp sauced with mango jalapeno drizzle, fried maseca-encrusted snapper topped with chipotle ranch, and carne asada ribeye steak seasoned with chimichurri. Choose your trio of tacos to be loaded into corn or flour tortillas.
And signature entrees round out the menu, with unique options like their Mexi-Country Shrimp and Grits, their Lowcountry Mexi Snapper Platter finished with a green chile tartar sauce, crispy tortilla strips, and pickled red onions, and Carnitas Mac’n Queso (queso is housemade), featuring a Cheerwine barbecue sauce and cotija cheese.
