Meiomi Sparkling Special Edition
Acampo, CA $21
Joe Wagner, son of Caymus founder Chuck Wagner, produced his first bottling of Meiomi in 2009, and sold the label to Constellation Brands in 2009. The brand has continued to flourish and now offers sparkling wines, like this Special Edition. Using methode champenoise, or the traditional French method, this medium bodied sparkler has flavors of pear, citrus and honey as well as notes of apple and toast in the finish.
Schramsberg Blanc
de Noir 2021
Calistoga, CA $40
Jacob Schram started his winery in the late 19th century, and in 1965, Jack and Jamie Davies restored the estate and began producing sparkling wines. This blend of 88% Pinot Noir and 12% Chardonnay offers lively aromas of apricot and lemon tart, key lime, and vanilla. The flavor profile is cantaloupe, peach nectar, and marzipan, adding up to a bright and spritzy finish.
Domaine Carneros Brut Rose 2020
Napa, CA $47
Using the methode traditionelle, this blend of estate-grown Pinot Noir (57%) and Chardonnay (43%) is aged a minimum of three years. The result is a wine with a bouquet of rose petal, peaches, and tangerine. The dry palate displays flavors of mandarin, raspberry and ginger, with a warm toastiness. A versatile sparkler, it can be paired with stuffed mushrooms, or salmon and capers. James Suckling rated it 93 points.
Pine Ridge Sparkling Sparkling Chenin Viognier N/V
Napa Valley, CA $15
A bright straw color and a delicate effervescence brings an aroma of green apple, pear, and zesty citrus notes of lemon and grapefruit. The mouthfeel is spritzy, showing an orchard fruit blend with more citrus and bright acidity. The creamy texture comes from the traditional production method and leads to a refreshing finish. I’m familiar with the non-bubbly or still version, and both are enjoyable and great values.
Chandon Blanc de Blancs Reserve
Yountville, CA $35
This unique blend of 92% Chardonnay and 8% Pinot Blanc grapes, both from Carneros, are combined with multiple vintages for a complex, but consistent style. The cool Carneros climate and long growing season give these grapes crisp acidity and an elegant mouthfeel. There are lively apple and lemon flavors that add to the spicy finish for a truly palate-pleasing experience.
