Sparkling wines to enjoy this holiday season

One Hope Rainbow Glitter Edition Brut Sparkling Wine - California, $60

Inside this unique package there are aromas of stone fruits and baked bread leading to a fruity texture of berries, peaches and pears. Creamy mousse-like bubbles refresh your palate and linger afterward. This Brut can be paired with most appetizers, desserts and cheeses. And by purchasing this wine, you help fund crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to LGBTQ youth.

Cuvee Thomas Jefferson Cremant de Limoux Brut 2013 - Limoux, France, $18

The monks of Limoux, not the Champagne region, first discovered sparkling wine here in 1531, and only sparkling wines from this region were said to be in Jefferson’s cellar. A blend of Chardonnay and three lesser grapes, it is well-balanced and full of richness and delicate bubbles. A golden color and aromas of flower, honey and toast. Enjoy with goat cheese and sweet desserts. 12.5 percent alcohol.

Schramsberg Blanc de Blancs Brut 2013 - California, $40

Blanc de Blancs means “white from white,” and this 100 percent Chardonnay was the first wine by this producer in 1965 and has been served at the White House. Aged for two years, it gives forth a vibrant and crisp flavor and is slightly fruity and dry. Aromas of stone fruits and vanilla with apple and citrus notes on the palate. Pairs well with shellfish and chicken curry, or stands well by itself.

Marques de Monistrol Reserva Seleccion Especial Rosé - Spain, $17

“Cava,” or sparkling wine from Spain, is an inexpensive treat, this one especially. A blend of four grapes, it is fruity on the palate and silky on the finish. This Reserva offers tiny bubbles created by the Methode Traditional favored by serious sparkle makers and delivers with an easy but elegant taste profile. Drink as an aperitif or with light dishes. 11.5 percent alcohol.

Gruet Blanc de Noirs Sparkling Wine - New Mexico, $18

Blush shades of a salmon give this full-bodied wine with good texture and flavors of cherry, pear and raspberry a hint of vanilla that fills the palate with fruits and minerals. Crisp acidity and a lasting finish. This blend is 75 percent Pinot Noir and 25 percent Chardonnay with 12 percent alcohol. Enjoy with most cheeses and light entrees.
