Most things happen for a reason, even if we don’t know the reason at that time. So, who would ever think that a creature as small as a caterpillar could have such an impact on the lives of so many people? Jenn Foxworth, owner and director of Our Kids Create, had that idea and has put it into practice on the Grand Strand. Nestled along Broadway Street in downtown Myrtle Beach, the Our Kids Create art studio is bringing to life the idea that inside every child is a butterfly waiting to be discovered. Foxworth’s desire is to help kids find the source that motivates and inspires them through a positive, hands-on learning environment.

Foxworth has always been creative, even as a child. “Growing up, I was the one making the homemade gifts” Foxworth says.

With a love of art and no plans after high school, she enrolled in the Art Institute of Charlotte where she earned her associate’s degree before completing her bachelor’s degree in graphic design. Still not sure what direction she wanted to go, her mom encouraged her to teach. While teaching special needs students, she earned a master’s degree in special education. Using her graphic arts skills, she also illustrated a children’s journal. Still searching for her purpose, directional changes continued to happen and Foxworth found herself in a variety of positions, from fashion manager to special events coordinator, all of which have prepared her for Our Kids Create.

Our Kids Create motivates positive change.

Foxworth and her husband, William, have created an environment that encourages kids to find the source that motivates them, then discover and unleash the talents and skills that they can develop and pursue to their full potential through art and education. Foxworth wants to inspire youth to start dreaming early in their lives by discovering their talents to build a foundation for the future. Every day at the studio is inspirational and no two days are alike. Most of the creative activities are hands-on, such as building projects, clay molding, science, photography, pillow creations, earth studies, yoga, beach studies and woodworking. She even brings in subject experts such as a local celebrity chef instructor to teach cake decorating.

These are challenging times we are living in, which have required modifications to work, home and play schedules for most families. Foxworth believes that healthy families build healthy communities and that is why she offers fluid options for today’s ever-changing schedules. Our Kids Create operates Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m.–6 p.m. with special sessions on Saturdays. The studio is also equipped with cameras so the parents can observe their child’s learning experience remotely in real time.

Registration for summer camp is available now and filling up fast.
