Lauren and Devin met as college athletes and scored big when they realized they were a match in matrimony

Before he put a diamond on her finger, Devin Bell got to know Lauren Capece on and off the baseball diamond at Frostburg State University in Maryland, where he played baseball and Lauren played softball.

“I knew Devin was the one because it just felt right,” says Lauren. “It’s hard to put into words, but when you know, you know.”
The Maryland natives dated for seven years, adopted a dog, moved in together, and traveled as a couple before Devin popped the question to become one.

“I wanted the proposal to be personal and not a huge ordeal, so I came home from work one day and ‘Will you marry me?’ was spelled out in rose petals on the bed,” says Lauren. “Of course I started crying and said, ‘YES!’”

The Bells were married on September 15, 2023 at a destination wedding at 21 Main Events, with their ceremony held on the beach and the reception in the ballroom at 21 Main.

“Our look was light and airy and our color palette was dusty blue, which was the perfect touch for a beach wedding,” says Lauren.

Dusty blue was woven into Lauren’s fresh bridal bouquet, which also featured white roses and eucalyptus, and the bridal party’s bouquets that burst with hydrangeas. Blue even made an appearance down to Devin’s Hey Dude’s and khakis held up by blue suspenders.

“I knew my dress was the one because it was the first one I tried on and it felt perfect, but I had to try on eight more to validate that the first was the best choice and it was,” she says. “I wore my late mom’s wedding veil, which was super special. And for our rehearsal dinner, I wore my late mom’s wedding dress that was altered to be short and sleeveless.”

The reception dinner was a fabulous spread of mahi mahi, filet mignon, and chicken as the main entrees to choose from – all of the bride and groom’s favorites. Devin loves ice cream, so they served up an ice cream bar for dessert, of course, along with finger desserts. And late-night pizza to-go was on the menu to close out the night because, as Lauren says, “Who doesn’t like a late-night snack?”

“Spending time with our family and friends as husband and wife was the best part of our day,” says Lauren. “Our wedding was the best day of our lives! The weather could not have been more perfect, and the venue was absolutely amazing! The staff and vendors were also the best, making our day flow so smoothly. I want to get married there every year and do it again and again!”

For other brides in the midst of planning their perfect wedding, too, Lauren has this piece of priceless advice:

“Soak it all in! The day will fly by right before your eyes. All the planning can be stressful, but 21 Main and all of our vendors made it all so easy,” she says. “The most rewarding thing is seeing your plans all come together for your special day.”

The happy couple now lives in Walkersville, Maryland, where Lauren works as a registered behavior technician and Devin as an assistant superintendent for a construction company.
