Myrtle Beach Classic Golf Tourney

Thursday, May 8, 2025 - 9:00am to Sunday, May 11, 2025 - 9:00am

Mark your calendars for May 8-11, when the PGA pro golfers will once again be in Myrtle Beach for the second annual Myrtle Beach Classic golf tournament. Held once again at the beautiful and stately Dunes Golf & Beach Club, the Myrtle Beach Classic was last year the first PGA TOUR event in Myrtle Beach history, and the first major professional golf tournament to the Grand Strand in 24 years. Last year’s event drew more than 40,000 spectators, with an estimated $15.4 million impact to the local economy. Additionally, from the generosity of the PGA’s philanthropic arm, nine local charities benefitted for a total of $225,000, with seven of those receiving at least $26,750. This year’s plans include an expanded Fan Zone, areas at the club set aside for food selections from area eateries and vendors, and a unique opportunity for local businesses to entertain both their staff as well as clients with private hospitality tents around the course. Tickets for the Myrtle Beach Classic are a great bargain, as daily grounds tickets begin at $30. Attendees 15 and under are free, and police and other first responders receive a 25% discount. Dunes Golf & Beach Club, 9000 N. Ocean Blvd. Thursday-Sunday, times of play vary. $30+. www.myrtlebeachclassic.com

“Sawgrass to Perform Bluegrass Concert at the Horry County Museum”

Saturday, May 10, 2025 - 1:00pm

The Horry County Museum presents a free traditional bluegrass concert by Sawgrass on Saturday, May 10th, at 1:00 PM. A tribute to local luthier, the late Jennings Chestnut will also take place before the performance. Sawgrass was formed in 1998 by founding member Jody Harrison, whose vision and passion shaped the band’s distinctive sound. The current lineup features Rich Viso, affectionately known as "Dr. Banjo," who has been with the band for 15 years, and the multi-talented Corey Merchant, who plays bass and serves as the band’s sound and audio engineer.

In 2024, the band welcomed Corey Anderson, whose exceptional vocals bring a dynamic new element to the group. Anderson’s voice is a true hidden gem, adding rich depth and emotion to Sawgrass’s performances. Also joining the band is Jenni Lyn Gardner, a Grammy-nominated musician with a distinguished international touring career and a deep history of music diplomacy. Jenni Lyn brings a wealth of experience, passion, and authenticity to Sawgrass. Over the years, Sawgrass has become a fixture in the bluegrass community. Their monthly residency at Chanti’s Pizza, a beloved local venue in downtown Conway, deepens their ties to the local music scene. With their energy, originality, and commitment to bluegrass, Sawgrass remains a prominent and respected presence in the region’s musical landscape. The program is free to the public and will be held in the Museum’s McCown Auditorium located at 805 Main Street, Conway, SC 29526. For more information, call 843-915-5320 or email hcg.museum@horrycountysc.gov. To view a full list of scheduled programs, visit the museum website at www.horrycountymuseum.org.

War Birds: Diary of an Unknown Aviator

Wednesday, May 14, 2025 - 1:00pm

The 2025 Horry County Museum Documentary Film Series continues with War Birds: Diary of an Unknown Aviator. This film tells the story of three American pilots who flew with the Royal Air Force during World War I. The film chronicles the exploits of John Grider, Elliott White Springs, and Larry Callahan, all known as the “Three Musketeers”. War Birds: Diary of an Unknown Aviator was originally published after World War I and became a bestseller. It was assumed that the diary was written and kept by Grider, the only member of the trio to be killed in action. However, it was later discovered in 1959 that Springs, who later became president of Spring Cotton Mills, Inc. and founder of Springmaid Beach Resort in Myrtle Beach, SC, wrote and published the work in memory of his friend and other pilots who had died in the war. The film is free to the public and will be shown at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, May 14th, at the Horry County Museum, located at 805 Main Street in Conway. The Horry County Museum Documentary Film Matinees will continue throughout 2025.
