Tree of Lights: A 35-foot live Fraser fir is placed in the Banquet Hall of Biltmore House every holiday season. The tradition of having a tree in this room goes back to 1895 when George Vanderbilt first opened the home to his family and friends.
Outside decorations were rare at the turn of the 19th century. The lions flanking the front door of Biltmore House are decked with a bit of greenery, however.
There are 68 trees inside Biltmore this year, including one in the breakfast room.
Christmas in Every Corner: The Library tree is illuminated with hundreds of lights.
A Warm Glow: Biltmore’s front lawn glows with a 55-foot Norway spruce, lit by approximately 45,000 tiny white lights.
