Gertrude “Gertie” Sanford Legendre hailed from Aiken and worked for the OSS—the original American spy agency—during WWII. She was imprisoned by the Nazis, eventually escaped and was known as a philanthropist and conservationist ahead of her time. Join journalist and writer Kathryn Smith as she discusses her book on Legendre, titled Gertie: The Fabulous Life of Gertrude Sanford Legendre, Heiress, Explorer, Socialite, Spy. A copy is included in the price of the event.
