This two-day event in Myrtle Beach, hosted by the Horry County Adult Education Center, supports the Palmetto Literacy Council so they can continue to provide free tutoring to children and adults in Horry County who struggle with basic reading, writing, and math. September is National Literacy Month and there will be new and gently used books (more than 5,000!) for sale at low prices. Local authors will have their books for sale on both days. Friday is family fun night 6-9 p.m. Tickets (donations) are $10 for adults, and children are free when accompanying adults with admission. We encourage participants to dress as their favorite book character! Dr. Preston McKever-Floyd will be the speaker, followed by the winners of the first Pen Warriors writing contest for grades K-8, who will read their books to an audience. There will be snacks, games and fun! Saturday events are free. There will be raffles, 50/50 and games both days. There will also be a blood drive thanks to the Blood Connection.
