78th Annual Tour of Historic Plantations and Homes

78th Annual Tour of Historic Plantations and Homes

Founded in 1729, Georgetown, SC was for two centuries one of the wealthiest areas in both the Colonial era, then in the young United States. The growing of indigo, then rice, created an elite society which left behind beautiful dwellings, gardens and public buildings, many of which are open to visitors only during these tours. Presented by the Women of Prince George Winyah Parish Church, the two-day self-guided tour may be enhanced by participation in a Friday night oyster roast and pig pickin’; an art and food sale on Saturday (open to the public) an afternoon tea (complimentary with tour ticket); a picnic lunch, and of course the three Sunday worship services offered that are open to the public. Prince George Winyah Parish Church, 301 Screven St. Friday-Saturday, 9:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. $60 +. (843) 633-1502, www.princegeorgeplantationtours.com
